Max Salazar The words seem to flow effortlessly from the pen of senior editor Max Salazar, a native New Yorker who lived the era of Latin music that he writes about and who keeps the reader riveted to his wonderful stories and first hand accounts. It is difficult to describe the talent, dynamics and dedication of this man whose knowledge of Latin music and immeasurable zeal for his work generate literature that is a sheer delight to read. He was born in Spanish Harlem and his journalistic career began in 1968 when he wrote articles on Afro-Cuban music history that appeared monthly in the Latin New York Magazine from 1973-76. Max has published over 400 articles on musicians, including biographies, concert reviews and record reviews. His articles have found their way to such well known publications like The Village Voice, Melody Maker, Clave, Mira, Latin Times, and Musician Magazine. He has been sought after as a consultant on every movie that has been produced with a Latin music theme in the last 10 years and has been asked to speak all over the world at universities and institutions, including our very own prestigious Smithsonian Institute. He is a storyteller and has shared the Latin Beat dream from 1990 to the present. |
