Paul Thomas
Paul Thomas is the newest and whitest addition to Latin Beat, writing online music reviews. This atypical 30-something California native has been playing and composing music since he was just a boy. At age 13 he began conning his parents and older friends into driving him to Hollywood, where he would perform with various bands for years to come. In his 20s he got bitten by the Latin music bug, and formed his dream band, Spellbound, shortly thereafter. This fiercely independent Latin/funk outfit has garnered much critical acclaim in the past few years with their growing CD catalog and rare live performances. Paul has always been an avid music fan and collector, and has amassed a small arsenal of CDs, cassettes, MP3s, and vinyl over the years. Some of his all-time favorite artists include: Sly & The Family Stone, Los Van Van, Jerry Garcia, and Daniela Mercury. He also runs a La Lupe fan website at www.geocities.com/lalupemusic. Ever the voracious reader, he was inspired to tackle writing after turning on to the "gonzo journalism" style of Hunter S. Thompson. A book by Paul (tentatively titled "We're Screwed: The Paranoid Ramblings of an L.A. Music Man") is in the works, and may someday see the light of day. Right now, he is just thrilled to be writing for Latin Beat, especially as it helps him stay current on new artists and recordings. Rudy Mangual for President!!!
