Rigo Gutierrez
Rigo Gutierrez is one of Latin Beat's new and innovative writers, with the imagination of a whimsical child who brings with him his own creative flare. "I just want to retire in ten years, move to Mexicali and start a fat man's softball league where my team, the Mexicali Waves, will dominate the circuit for several years to come." For now, he's thrilled to be involved with Latin Beat Magazine. Rigo began writing at an early age and floored it when 90210 was canceled. Aside from dreaming in baby blue and creating abstract silent films, Rigo has an intense love of music. Growing up in a fairly traditional Mexican household, he unconsciously rejected his parent's music; not because he didn't appreciate the brilliance of Mexican Rancheras, but because he couldn't entertain the notion that they conveyed something bigger than The Pixies or Pavement - it had style, it had history. "Now we listen to the Flaming Lips in the car, and yes, we sing along. There's nothing more satisfying than having your life-long dream play out in perfect echelon." He wants to write about music and how it is not just a means for killing time, it's a movement. Having lived in Los Angeles for all his 23 years he has grown into this city's misconstrued aura of resilience and promise and there's nowhere he would rather be-granted, Jerry Bruckheimer lives here too, but we'll pretend he's just visiting. In other words, he plans to resurrect Corey Feldman's career.
