Silvio Alava
One of the original founders of Latin Beat Magazine, Silvio Alava was born in New York City in "el barrio," or better known as Spanish Harlem, and was raised during the bebop era and the development of Latin music in the city. He attended the City College of New York, majoring in Fine Arts and Photography. In 1960 Alava moved to Los Angeles with his family and continued his studies, eventually becoming an Aircraft Design Engineer and in the early nineties retired from Northrop Corporation. Throughout the years he has maintained an interest in painting, photography, jazz and Latin music. His wonderful photographs have been published in Latin Beat along with his short stories, since 1991.
